Description
We have an exciting Hostel in the heart of Georgetown, Penang right now.
Our goal is to have a social hostel where people can meet, connect and make new friends.
We have a lot of experience in the hospitality industry, but as we don't have enough capacity to do everything ourselves, we need some helping hands to keep everything running smoothly.
We have 14 permanent staff ( not volunteers or workaway applicants) working at our hostel handling every aspect of day to day needs, examples of these are cleaning, reception duties, handling cafe, laundry, accounts, opening and closing duties.. everything . Due to the large amount of backpackers/ traveler's we receive at our hostel this is where we request help from workawayers. Being very extroverted social butterflys ourselves we also want volunteers applying here to help us hosting our guests by communicating and socialising with eachother and sharing fellow traveling experiences while enjoying and learning from each other. We have been open now for 16 months in Penang, my name is Aliff I'm from Malaysia and my Partner Shane is from Ireland and been living in Penang, Malaysia for 10 years. We both have extensive background in hospitality ranging from previous hostels and rental hosting. We are both world travellers and always enjoy meeting new fellow travellers.

Our travellers/ volunteers will benefit from the knowledge that our staff and managers have of Penang and Malaysian culture. We would love to show you around and give you an authentic experience you will never forget.
Our staff are interested in the culture from the volunteers different countries and they can give a lot of insight into the rich Malaysian culture, history, and tradition.
Help
We're happy to take on any volunteers looking to help us out with different tasks, including entertaining the guests and general maintenance for our Hostel.
We have a total of 12 spots for volunteering at our hostel however we generally only allocate 6 spots from workaway and the other 6 is for guests who stay with us first that then decide they want to stay longer and volunteer in exchange for the same benefits as workawayers
We would like any volunteer interested in helping us out to help 5 hours a day 5 days a week while also having an amazing time and plenty of fond memories.
We request anyone interested in volunteering to commit at least 3 weeks with us.
To clarify further we have three different shift schedules for potential workawayers morning- afternoon. Afternoon- evening. Evening.
Depending on which time of day the workawayers shift will be the tasks are pretty much the same. We only ask that they be neat and presentable, practice good hygiene and be friendly and open minded while engaging with our guests at the hostel. Upon resuming a position at Hostel our permanent staff will give a quick and easy introduction to the hostel itself as well as the rest of our team who handle it. Workawayers will be asked to help fold clean laundry when needed, some light cleaning in Cinema room and communal area e,g removing any rubbish left behind, and to help inform new guests checking in about our facilities at the hostel. Also when guests are enjoying hanging out at Hostel ( playing cards, talking, board games), we encourage our workawayers to join in with them so as to have fun with our guests while enjoying and also creating a vibrant fun atmosphere.. which is important for any hostel. We tend to have about 10-20 new guests per day at the Hostel so it's important for us to have workawayers that can engage and socialise with fellow backpackers. The tasks mentioned above for workawayers are as simple as they sound. We just want that bit of help to create a more fun and energetic energy around the hostel. We look forward to meeting you and to your help!
