Hello everyone! I'm Elena, I'm 26 and I come from a small seaside town near Venice, called Jesolo, so north-east of Italy!
Growing up I have always been a very active and cheerful child, I loved animals, nature, and playing any type of sport, thing that costed me and my mother a lot of pained trips to the physiotherapist when I was younger! Eventually, I was able to find a great companion of life in volleyball, a sport that I played for almost 17 years and to which I devoted relentless energies.
When it was time for me to decide my academic path, it has always been very clear to me that I had to purse a career in languages studies, for I have been interested in other cultures and worlds different from mine since I was little. Therefore, studying languages seemed like the easiest and most interesting way to learn something new about what it is that I could find outside my little reality and the fastest way to communicate with the world. That’s why I decided to attend an amazing high school in Venice in which languages and tourism were the main subjects; during those 5 years, I had the wonderful opportunity to travel around Europe not only as a tourist but also as an exchanged student living in different host families.
I then decided to move to Padua, enrolling at the University of Padua to begin a course in Languages, Mediation, and foreign Literature where I specialize in English and Spanish. During my bachelor’s years I have also begun to be very interested in human rights, politics and activism, so I tried to learn as much I could on those topics, but I felt the need to get my hands dirty on something real. That’s why I started to slowly approach to the world of volunteering and I was lucky enough to serve into two different associations for women: in the first one, named “Libera la parola”, I worked as an Italian language teacher for African women; in the second one, named “Tu&Io”, I worked with women, victims of human trafficking, in order to help them emerge from their condition of exploitation. At the beginning of my third year, I embarked in one of the most amazing experiences of my life when I decided to leave Italy to work as a volunteer in Peru for two months, period of time in which I lived with a Peruvian family, and I taught English in a school for children from 5 to 11 years of age. All of these experiences have fulfilled my heart with so much happiness, love and sense of purpose that after my graduation I decided to continue my studies, moving to Milan and beginning a master in Languages and Cultures for International Communication and Cooperation, as my personal aim was to rich the highest level of academic expertise possible in order to work as a cultural mediator for refugees.
Together with all of these meaningful experiences, there has always been a significant constant in my life: work. Leaving in a seaside town, that lives of seasonal tourism, I had my first job when I was 17, and I have always been working since, putting myself in different situations, without ever pulling back. I have worked as a babysitter, private teacher, waitress, bartender, shop assistant, but since 2020 I have been working as a receptionist, job for which I have understood I am very suited for. To be perfectly blunt, working has allowed me to have my own independence and to pay my studies for many years for which I am very grateful, but sometimes it has been very stressful and difficult to do both at the same time. Despite this, I truly believe that in one way or another every work-related experience that I had taught me something important that I have already used or that I will use in the future.
Before I actually started my master, I was willing to leave Italy once again to have another experience as a volunteer in India, but then, as everybody knows, Covid arrived and for many of us our lives had to stop or at least slow down for a while. I can say that since 2020 something in me shifted profoundly. I have always been a very spiritual, empathetic and introspective person, but since that year I felt like my spirituality needed to be listened to, to be seen. I can say that from that moment I started to deeply focus on something that I actually had already began to focus on a couple of years before which was discovering me and trying to understand my true self, my true desires and persona. Being involved in a personal journey such as mine is not always easy and fun but it is amazing to get, besides all the ups and downs, every day a little bit more closer to your inner self, it is a blessing. Sometimes all of the self-awareness that we acquire may cause pain and confusion, that why my latest years have been dotted with a lot of doubts on my future and my self, but it is all part of a journey and now I decided that I want to satisfy the part of me that I put asleep for too long.
That’s why I decided to use workaway, to start travelling again independently, meet and help new people, experience new cultures and live my life to the fullest. I think that this could make me the happiest person alive right now!

Mais detalhes sobre meu interesse em idiomas
Being a language graduate, I have had some experiences of teaching languages to students of different ages, from children to young adults. In the mayority of the cases, these experiences were private one-to-one lessons that I gave, but I also valunteer as a teacher in different circumstances. In addition, teaching is something the runs in my family blood since half of my family members are in fact teachers. Lately I have been thinking about teaching as something more real and serious, a path that I could actually try to pursue thanks to my past experiences and thanks to the skills I have acquired with my academic studies. I would be willing to teach Italian, Spanish or English at any level required!

  • Quais são suas habilidades?

Thanks to all of my experiences, work related as well as the ones that I did for my one pleasure, I have had the opportunity of understanding my greatest skills and improve them when I had the chance.
I can firmly say that among my greatest qualities there are my communications skills, not only because I fluently speak 3 languages but also because I am a very good mediator and I always try to look at both sides of every situation before taking action. I can easily adapt to different environments, even when the circumstances are not favorable, and I consider myself a very open minded and hearted person ready to embrace and learn from different cultures and way of living. Having also covered roles of high responsibility at work and having dealt with the most diverse types of customers coming from all over Europe, I have discovered a great capacity of problem solving in myself, but also teamwork and, when required, leadership, that has allowed me to gain more confidence during these last years.
I also love practical and physical work, that’s why I love fixing things, taking care of the house but more than everything gardening and doing outdoors activities! This last one is a passion of mine that I would love to explore more, since is something that I really feel prone to.
In addition, I have spent my entire life with animals such as dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, so I am very confortable around them and I love to take care of them.
Last but not least, I think that one of my greatest quality is the fact that I am a very empathetic person and I love to listen and help people in any way I can. Maybe this is not a real skill, but I surely think that it is something essential to my persona and that is something that I show and use every time that I have an interaction with another human being.

  • Algo mais...

I define myself as a multipotential person, I have many different hobbies and passions, sometimes way too many! But if I have to select the main ones music (as trivial as it may sound) is for sure one of them! I am in fact a singer and I couldn't think about a life without music and singing. The genres that I performe the most are rnb, neo soul, soul, reggae and funk but even here, my tastes in music are very wide!
I am also very passionate about yoga, meditation and everything that is close to the spiritual world such as astrology, tarot reading and personal healing. That's why I also feel deeply connected to nature and all of its marvels. I like most sports in general and I am always ready to try new activities, my dream right now is to learn how to surf!
On the other hand, one of my newest passion are DIY works with epoxy resin that I usually create in my house when I have some free time for friends and family, but one day I would love to expand my creations to the entire world!
Last passion that I would love to cite is something that I don't usually share often, since it is something a bit unusual and it is very rare to find people that have this same passion as me! I love linguistics, meaning that I love to learn how a language is built semantically, phonetically, and how the culture of a certain country influences it. I acutally have an entire note on my computer with words from all over with peculiar meanings that are not translatable in any other language beside the original one!
